Welcome To Garbage Industries

Welcome to my little slice of the internet. Here you'll find updates on the various things I'm working on, including product updates, upcoming changes, and future plans, as well as guides for various things.

I've loved technology for as long as I can remember, but I've not loved the path it has taken over the years. I enjoy simple, reliable, rugged devices that solve legitimate problems and make life easier. I can't stand ads, data mining, popups, bloated nonsense, internet requirements, and locked down systems that become useless after a short while. The goal is to create open source solutions to problems that need to be solved. Like how to keep your electric water heater from draining your off grid cabin battery bank, leaving you without power. Or how to get a computer into the rain forest or out at sea to collect, store, and process data. Or perhaps how to get people off their various screens and back into the real world. technology has caused many of our biggest problems, but has solved countless others. It's just a tool that can be used for anything.

Garbage Industries has been in the works since 2013, when I decided I needed to start my own business and solve interesting problems. It's taken me a very long time to decide what I wanted to do with my life and business, but I finally figured it out in 2025. I've been tinkering with electronics for my entire life and started programming tiny computers(microcontrollers) around 2016 or so. I've been in and out of the hobby over the years, as life was chaotic and tedious. I started by turning some tiny lights on and off with computer code, moved up to turning a lamp on and off along with a basic song, and eventually designing, building, and using a custom water heater controller to manage power usage in an off grid camper pulled by a Tesla. The lady at the time and I lived in that little camper during the lockdown of 2020, and it sparked my deep-seated passion for alternative lifestyle, electronics, technology, and complex problem solving. I kept seeing all of these interesting and important problems that could be solved with modern technology. No one seemed to be creating the kinds of solutions I wanted, so I decided I would just have to learn how to design custom electronics and make them myself.

Currently(November of 2025) I'm designing a ruggedized, modern, cartridge based computer system to help me simplify my computer setup and get more work done. No software updates, no Internet, no locked down software, no distractions. An entire project and system on a cartridge. Insert the cartridge, work on the project, shut down, store it on a shelf. Pick up a cartridge and it will be EXACTLY as you left it, even years or decades later. Custom hardware can be added to each cartridge to contain a fully self contained development environment, whether it be for industrial design, video game development, video productions, or even just a basic operating system with a browser and some games. This project has gotten me motivated to finally start my own little business and start taking things more seriously.

In the works are the computer system, a digital pocket checklist device, off grid power management system, and a few basic electronic tools to make life a little less complicated and irritating.

This blog aims to share updates, provide guides to solve commom and obscure problems, and to entertain. I hope you find it useful. Subscribe to the email newsletter for future updates. I'm quite busy, so I doubt I'll have time to spam your email. I also hate spam, so I refuse to subject people to that.

Cheers,

Dustin A.
