Raspberry Pi Software

Software For The Pi

Software resources for the Raspberry Pi 5. These are the pieces of software I found work well on the Raspberry Pi, make it more useful, and allow people to use it in different and interesting ways. I'd consider some of these to be essential Pi software. I'll add and remove the software, as well as guides for it, as I can. These are all programs I am working on testing or have used in the past. All or most of them can be installed from the Pi Apps store.

This page is under heavy construction and will likely change significantly. Please excuse the mess as I try to figure out the best way to organize and present all of this.

Tried and True on Raspberry Pi (Mostly)

Pi Apps

This is one of the best things to install on a Raspberry Pi, as it enables easy access to useful software. I install this on every single Pi I use.

Run the following command in a terminal window to install:

wget -qO- https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Botspot/pi-apps/master/install | bash
  • VLC Media Player
  • Box64
  • GIMP
  • Inkscape
  • Shotwell
  • KiCAD
  • Godot
  • Steam
  • Steamlink
  • OBS Studio
  • Botspot Screen Recorderhttps://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/List_of_Linux_ARM_games
  • Kdenlive
  • Audacity
  • LibreOffice
  • Snap Store
  • Flameshot
  • Snapdrop
  • VeraCrypt
  • FF Converter

Snap Store

This is another software store, similar to Pi Apps, which allows you to download new software. It only list programs compatible with the ARM64 processor in the Pi. Not all programs will work on the Raspberry Pi, due to various differences, but most work just fine. Steam is currently not working, though the latest Snap Store version has a ton of great new features. Can be installed from the Pi Apps store.

    • Runs great with a GPU (Radeon RX 400 Series)
    • Runs like poorly on stock Pi 5, even with overclock.
  • Super Tux Kart

Other Sources

These are programs that either don't exist in the Pi Apps or Snap stores, or might need to be installed from other sources to get them working or get newer features, or special versions.

Untested Software Sources

Beyond the programs above, which either work, or most likely work, there are other games and programs that MIGHT work. They're listed below and pending testing.
